The business world is all about competition and for a CEO to be truly successful, he needs to know what he is up against in the larger scheme of things. The premise of KYC (Know Your Competition) provides an opportunity for each warrior of Numero Uno to track his or her competitors.

 

Follow the links to your competitors’ blogs to find out about your rivals in the race for fame at NU. You can also read their answers for the question on Day 1 of the blogging round.

 

You are free to leave criticism, appreciation, agreement, differences, everything legitimate under the sun J at your competitors’ blogs. These comments would be considered for final evaluation of the blogging round.

Question 2 for Blogging Round

 

The question for Day 2 (final) of the blogging rounds is:

 

What emerging realities do you see in light of the emerging economies? Which among these new economies do you feel would outpace the others? Quote examples and facts to support your argument.

 

The participants are expected to answer the question through their blog. The deadline for doing the same in 7:59:59 PM on October 7^th, 2008.

Question 1 for Blogging Round

Are management graduates meant to be corporate servants or corporate masters? As a responsible member of the student community, what steps would you take to promote entrepreneurship among B-school students? Suggest implementable solutions.

 

The participants are expected to answer the question through their blog. The deadline for doing the same in 7:59:59 PM on October 6^th, 2008.

Pre-event instructions

Instructions for participants

1. The on-campus rounds of the event would be preceded by an online blogging round, directions for which have already been sent to candidates and are also available online at http://numerouno08.blogspot.com/.
   
2. Participants are requested to regularly check the Numero Uno blog and the Vista website www.iimb-vista.com for updates
   
3. The event would be held on all 3 days of Vista i.e. 10^th, 11^th & 12^th October with approximately 2 rounds per day carrying different weightages towards the final evaluation.
   
4. Participants are requested to reach IIM Bangalore campus & register themselves at the Vista 2008 registration desk by 10 PM October 9^th
   
5. The first on-campus round would begin at 9:30 AM on October 10
   
6. The detailed schedule would be made known to the participants once they are on campus. The last round would end on the evening ( 6 PM) of October 12, followed by prize distribution in the late evening (8 PM). The participants, are therefore, requested to make their travel arrangements accordingly.
   
7. Some rounds would involve the use of a computer and an internet connection (which would be provided by IIMB).
   
8. Candidates are expected to carry the following things with them :
   

o   Wi-Fi enabled laptop with chargers

o   Business formals

o   A pair of sports shoes

o   Sports attire

o   Hard copy of the letter from the institute certifying the validity of their candidature

• The organizers reserve the right to put the SOPs of the participants for public display. However the confidentiality of the CVs will be maintained. 
  

What is this blog about?

This is the official blog for Numero Uno, the flagship event for VISTA 2008, IIM Bangalore's annual business festival. The purpose of this blog is to kick-start the competition for Numero Uno before the warriors meet each other face to face. This blog will serve as the online hub for all event activity prior to the event and even after it. 

The links on the right hand side redirect you to the individual blogs of each of the competitors which will be their rostrum for pitching themselves as the rightful Numero Uno. These blogs are meant to serve as their mouthpieces to the rest of the world. An evaluation component carrying certain weightage is also attached to the content of these blogs.

This blog will carry periodical updates about the activities that the participants need to perform from time to time. Participants are therefore requested to keep visiting this page regularly. The instructions for this Pre-Vista round are as follows:

•  The participants are requested to create a blog on any of the blogging sites (Wordpress, Blogspot etc.) and send in the link to numerouno@iimb.ernet.in by 4th October, 2008 (23:59:59 hours) so that the official Numero Uno blog can be linked to theirs
  
•  Participants would be required to write a blog post on their blog describing themselves before mailing the links to us
  
• Participants are free to upload any content on their blogs that they feel is relevant to their participation in Numero Uno. However, the organizers reserve the right of allowing or disallowing certain content if found to be objectionable. The participants might be required to remove the content in such a case
  
• The participants will be mailed a question each at 8 pm on October 5th and 6th. They would have to use their blogs for answering the same
  
•  Evaluation of the answers will be based on the following criteria:
  

                o Depth of analysis

o   Practicality of solutions suggested

o   Structure of the essay

o   Logical flow from facts to assumptions to final recommendations

o   Creativity and interest quotient

• Overall evaluation of the blog would be based on the answers to the questions as well as the relevance and quality of other content on the blog, including comments.
  

Numero Uno through the ages

There is one thing common between great liquor and great events - They inevitably get better with time !!!

Numero Uno, as a concept was born in the early days of Vista, during 2005 when the organizers of the then Vista felt the need of an event that tested the whole gamut of business management skills, threadbare, to unleash a true business leader, ready to hold the reins of the future of the business world that was shaping itself in a changed global context. With each year, Numero Uno has climbed several notches in terms of the level of competition and competitiveness as well as the reward on offer. After all, No pain no gain !!!

The winners of Numero Uno over the years have ranged from CEOs of existing companies to students from European universities to the graduates from India's best B-schools. However, all these Numero unos have one thing in common - they've all gone on to become leaders in whatever field they've chosen to pursue.

Numero Uno thus verily presents an opportunity to see the best of the best compete with each other to establish themselves as the first among equals. And the competition is going to be hotter than ever in 2008. Keep watching !!!

What is NUMERO UNO ???

Numero Uno is the flagship event of VISTA – IIMB’s annual business festival. An event that scouts for excellence and uses the rigor of extreme competition to separate the best from the rest, Numero Uno aims at rewarding those with the entire armor of skills that can catapult one to the top. The hectic pace that defines the world of business incapacitates jacks of all trades; they need to be masters instead, if they are to prove their might in the corporate jungle. Numero Uno hunts for that stellar STUDent who possesses the skills to be a future business leader... And it's not going to be easy! 

This tough roller coaster ride runs across all the days of Vista, and challenges the participants' ability to think on their feet, guts to perform under enormous duress, and calls into question their skills in creativity, entrepreneurial spirit, stamina, teamwork and communication.

Participation is through invitations and only the best from their territories compete, ensuring high quality competition. This only means it's going to be a grueling stress test for all the challengers. Spectators have loads to look forward to in this event, with each prospect rolling up his sleeves and revealing the ace up there! With Numero Uno, there is not an iota of doubt: only the best man CAN win for it is indeed room for only one at the top.
